Convergence of experiences

This video popped up on the Internets over the weekend and has sent a bit of a wave through the mobile community. There is no clear picture as to what the device advertised actually is, with some pundits reckoning it's the X2, but the following is clear from the the advert: Sony are focusing on media, video with a dash of social networking on their mobile devices. True converged multimedia phones. Products like the N95 and iPhone have paved the way for this functionality to be readily accessible on mobile devices and now SE have followed suit by creating products that will deliver the full Mobile experience to users. Nokia have the Tube en route. LG have rumours of the Viewty mk 2 popping around. Motorola are, well, doing stuff in this area which is quite revolutionary (can't talk to much about it: I value my job!). Suffice it to say, these small baby steps in devices will ensure we'll hit Mobile 2.0 within the next 2 years. The only time I was this excited to be involved in a particular "space" was 6 years ago, in the web world. Times were changing then with alot of the enablers finally in place for Web 2.0 to start taking off. I think that similar enablers are now being put in place to enable a Mobile 2.0 experience to kick off. These are exciting times.
